Is it also important to take care/clean on the body just below the tip?

Do's
Rotate tip on soldering iron element shaft 1/2-turn each time before powering on iron (cleans contact)

If a new tip is not tinned at startup and becomes "heat glazed" (won't take solder), plunge the hot tip into tip cleaner for 15-30 seconds, wipe on damp sponge and tin.

Frequently wipe soldering tips on dampened sponge to keep tinning shiny and clean and help minimize flux buildup.

Fine sandpaper or a fine file can be used on our unplated soldering tip (N408X) to keep the point sharp. Always re-tin immediately after sanding (after wiping on damp sponge first).

Don'ts
Power up soldering iron with new tip without immediately tinning the tip with solder as it is heating up. This will prevent the tip from "heat glazing" (oxidation).

Ever use sandpaper, a file, or steel wool to clean our iron-clad, nickel-plated tips (N408I, N409I, N410I). This will destroy the nickel plating and the tip's protection against oxidation & pitting.

Do not leave the soldering iron on for long periods of time (more than 30 minutes) between soldering operations. This will extend the life of the tips.

For many applications, the flux included in the core of the solder wire is sufficient. However, there are several applications where additional flux is extremely beneficial, such as surface-mount soldering and desoldering. In all cases, the best flux to use is the least acidic (least aggressive) flux that will work on the oxide on the components and result in a good solder bond.

Rosin Flux
Some of the oldest types of flux are based off pine sap—refined and purified—called rosin. Rosin flux is still used today, but modern rosin flux blends different fluxes to optimize its performance.

Organic Acid Flux
One of the more common fluxes is water-soluble organic acid flux. Common weak acids are used in organic acid flux, including citric, lactic and stearic acids. The weak organic acids are combined with solvents like isopropyl alcohol and water.

Yes , that's right ! We also have
Inorganic Acid Flux
Inorganic acid flux works better with stronger metals such as copper, brass and stainless steel. It's a blend of stronger acids like hydrochloric acid, zinc chloride, and ammonium chloride. Inorganic acid flux requires complete cleaning after use to remove all of the corrosive residues from the surfaces, which will weaken or destroy the solder joint if left in place. Inorganic acid flux should not be used for electronic assembly work or electrical work.

Solder Fumes
The smoke and fumes released while you're soldering include several chemical compounds from the acids and their reaction with the oxide layers. Other compounds such as formaldehyde, toluene, alcohols and acidic fumes are often present in the solder fumes. These fumes can lead to asthma and increase insensitivity to solder fumes. Ensure adequate ventilation and, as necessary, use a respirator.

DON'T"S
File to clean
Wipe tips dry
Wipe without re-tinning
Burn solder off tip
Overheat while cleaning
Overheat while retinning

DO'S
Wipe of with a wet sponge (cellulose)
Leave a thin layer of bright solder in tip
Clean tip while cool
Protect tin coating

The four main factors to consider when choosing a soldering iron are:
1) wattage
2) type of the soldering iron
3)temperature control
4) tip size and shape

Just sharing my considerations in choosing my soldering iron Smile
Wattage:
Wattage is inarguably one of the most important factors to take into consideration when choosing a soldering iron. Think of wattage as power and think about how much power you’ll need from your soldering iron.

Type (or style):
There are three main types of soldering irons:
Soldering pencils
Soldering guns
Soldering torches

Temperature Control

Closely tied to wattage, temperature control is important in that as soon as you start soldering, the heat will transfer from the soldering tip to the solder and your soldering iron will drop in temperature. If you're working on a project where you just need to do a bit at a time, then this shouldn't be a problem. However, if you need sustained heat, then a higher wattage soldering iron with temperature control would be better.

I think we just need the soldering iron and Led to have a good solder.

Soldering is not difficult and you can learn how to solder in less than an hour so maybe you will just joint two workpieces and have a good solder but for me,it will be a very good and excellent solder if we are going to use those materials in soldering , for our safety as well Smile

A normal simple Soldering iron has a fixed temperature heater. But on the other hand a soldering station has a variable temperature heater, a stand, a flux container, and a sponge for cleaning, all in one. And they aslo provide a number of tips for the iron. And obviously such soldering station is much more costlier than a simple soldering iron. For simple DIP soldering , through hole soldering purposes, a normal soldering iron is enough. But for SMD soldering purposes, a soldering station is mandatory. Laughing

Hmmm,I just holding it like Im using a big big pencil or pen Very Happy lol Very Happy But ofcourse, there is a big difference between holding soldering iron and pen or pencil whatever Very Happy because we should use it carefully for our safety Smile I have here a summary that explains how to use a soldering iron to solder an electronic component.I hope it will help you Smile
To get started, make sure your soldering iron is fully heated up.
It is important to keep the tip of the soldering iron clean while using it, use a wet sponge to keep the tip cleaned.
Clean the tip before you start soldering and continue to clean the tip as you continue the soldering process.
Touch the soldering iron tip to the component you want to solder.
After a second or two, introduce the solder to the joint area. The heat will conduct to the solder and cause it to flow. Try not to melt the solder directly with the tip of the soldering iron. This will form a cold joint which is brittle and may not conduct electricity.
Allow the joint to cool before moving anything.

Nice question jinemay Smile Soldering is not the same as welding. When you weld something, the components are directly melted together without using solder. Solder is a softer metal with a lower melting point. This allows the components to be connected without using the high temperatures associated with welding and it preserves the integrity of the components. Because solder is conductive, it is widely used in electronics.
Smile Thanks for asking !

Soldering is a low-temperature analog to brazing. By the American Welding Society's definition, soldering takes place with fillers (also known as solders) that melt at below 840°F (450°C). Metals that can be soldered include gold, silver, copper, brass, and iron. The filler, called solder, melts.
