If a new tip is not tinned at startup and becomes "heat glazed" (won't take solder), plunge the hot tip into tip cleaner for 15-30 seconds, wipe on damp sponge and tin.

Don'ts

However, there are several applications where additional flux is extremely beneficial, such as surface-mount soldering and desoldering. In all cases, the best flux to use is the least acidic (least aggressive) flux that will work on the oxide on the components and result in a good solder bond.

Inorganic Acid Flux
Inorganic acid flux works better with stronger metals such as copper, brass and stainless steel. It's a blend of stronger acids like hydrochloric acid, zinc chloride, and ammonium chloride. Inorganic acid flux requires complete cleaning after use to remove all of the corrosive residues from the surfaces, which will weaken or destroy the solder joint if left in place. Inorganic acid flux should not be used for electronic assembly work or electrical work.


Solder Fumes
The smoke and fumes released while you're soldering include several chemical compounds from the acids and their reaction with the oxide layers. Other compounds such as formaldehyde, toluene, alcohols and acidic fumes are often present in the solder fumes. These fumes can lead to asthma and increase insensitivity to solder fumes. Ensure adequate ventilation and, as necessary, use a respirator.

Soldering is not difficult and you can learn how to solder in less than an hour so maybe you will just joint two workpieces and have a good solder but for me,it will be a very good and excellent solder if we are going to use those materials in soldering , for our safety as well

A normal simple Soldering iron has a fixed temperature heater. But on the other hand a soldering station has a variable temperature heater, a stand, a flux container, and a sponge for cleaning, all in one. And they aslo provide a number of tips for the iron. And obviously such soldering station is much more costlier than a simple soldering iron. For simple DIP soldering , through hole soldering purposes, a normal soldering iron is enough. But for SMD soldering purposes, a soldering station is mandatory.

To get started, make sure your soldering iron is fully heated up.

Nice question jinemay Soldering is not the same as welding. When you weld something, the components are directly melted together without using solder. Solder is a softer metal with a lower melting point. This allows the components to be connected without using the high temperatures associated with welding and it preserves the integrity of the components. Because solder is conductive, it is widely used in electronics.
